The chilly and windy Fall season brings plenty of skin problems, from dry skin to flakey patches. Our skin becomes paler and more prone to dead skin cells on the surface. When it comes to foundation, these skin issues can become more visible with the change in our skin’s texture. Taking extra care of our skin should be considered to prevent these issues for better foundation applications. To get your skin Fall ready for foundation, it’s essential to keep in mind a few extra steps before application.

Preparing your skin for foundation will ensure the longest wear with your makeup without looking cakey or chalky on your skin.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind for your Fall skin care routine.

Tip #1: Exfoliate your skin.

The low humidity and harsh winds changes the texture of our skin. It’s important to scuff off any dead skin cells to prevent dry and flaky patches. Use a gentle exfoliant twice a week to scrub off the outer layer of skin. For a DIY at home exfoliant use a mixture of olive oil and sugar, since some types of sugar is coarse use a light hand when exfoliating.

Tip #2: Moisturize

Moderation is key in preparing your skin for foundation, you don’t want to apply a thick layer of moisturizer before you apply foundation. Apply a thin layer enough to smooth and hydrate your skin. Let the moisturizer sink in for about 5-10 minutes, after which take a tissue and blot off any excess moisture to prevent any oil build up.

When it comes to selecting your Fall foundation, keep in mind the change in texture and skin tone. If you skin tone has become paler, mix a slightly darker shade into your regular foundation to produce the perfect shade. The Matt Perfection Foundation Compact is a cream to powder formula perfect for combination to oily skin types. The compact comes with a sponge applicator for an even coverage foundation.

For dry skin types, choose a hydrating foundation which will add moisture to your skin. The Pro Luminous Foundation is ideal for medium coverage with a slightly dewy finish. The added UVA/UVB protection aids in preventing sun damage.
